To Give and Receive in Return As we approach the holiday season, many of us think about giving to charities. This year include your entire family in the decision process of which charities to support. Before your family gathering, prepare a list of charities you would consider making contributions to. Present the different options to your family, sharing with them what the charity does, and why you think they would be a good choice for the family to support.
Let everyone ask questions and share their ideas. Talk about the charities and how they help others. Help your children understand that there are other who are less fortunate than them. Then let your children select the specific charity(s) they want to support; have them explain why they chose the specific charity(s). Narrow the field of choices down to determine what causes are of most importance to them. Have the children allocate a certain dollar amount or percentage of your contributions to each charity, again they will identify the specific causes of most importance to them.
“There is a wonderful, almost mystical law of nature that says three things we want most, happiness, freedom, and peace of mind - are always attained when we give them to others.” - John Wooden
